Out of control anger

A DEPARTMENT of housing tenant, who smashed doors in his home, said he did it to deter a fight, Gympie Magistrates Court heard.

Joshua Ray Gilliland, 24, said he had people over to his place on June 28 and things got out of control with one particular guest.

He told the court he had encouraged a man to take his anger out on a door instead of other guests and him.

Police said when they turned up to deal with the disturbance in Lawrence Street, Gympie, they saw people running from the unit and heard screaming from inside the residence.

Officers thought someone was being attacked, and on investigating, saw debris all over the place inside.

Gilliland told police there had been a fight between him and another man, so he kicked the cupboard doors and internal sliding doors to vent his anger, encouraging others to do the same.

He was ordered to complete 50 hours’ of community service and pay back $412.50 for the damage.
