Gympie Show deserves our support

TODAY marks the start of the 125th Gympie Show and continues the tradition of showcasing the best of the Gympie region.

The Gympie Show, deservedly, has been long touted as one of, if not the best, country shows in Australia.

This reputation has been hard-fought.

Decades of dedication and hard work by thousands of volunteers have made the Gympie Show the community icon it is today.

That can be lost if not enough people support the major event.

I know a lot of families use the long weekend as a chance to get away and have a break. That's understandable, but this year I would like to see everyone spend at least one day at the show as a kind of civic duty.

The extra attendance would bring in extra funds for the Show Society and ensure its viability into the future.

It would also boost the sense of community that Gympie is so famous for.

The Gympie region has had a rough start to 2013 with two major floods hitting our economy hard.

The show is a great opportunity to get out and enjoy the best of our region while having a great time with all the family and catching up with old friends.
