Olivia is a 'beaut'
ENTHUSIASTIC shouts echoed throughout Centro on Saturday after judges announced Gympie girl Olivia Sallaway as the Queensland entrant of the prestigious national model search Miss Country Girl Australia.
The Gympie State High School Year 12 student blitzed the Queensland heats, which attracted more than 50 beauties from as far afield as Gippsland in Victoria to compete.
Centro Gympie marketing manager, Kellie Stewart, said the 180cm , 17-year-old blonde beauty was overcome by the enormity of the announcement, shedding tears of joy as she accepted the award.
“Olivia is now off to Sydney next month to compete in the national competition of Miss Country Girl Australia,” Ms Stewart said.
“There will be key stakeholders from the Miss Universe Australia pageant as well as a number of international model scouts, so this is a fantastic opportunity for Olivia to break into the modelling industry.
“Olivia really did Gympie proud right throughout the competition with organises and retailers of Centro Gympie commenting on what a lovely girl she was to work with.
Centro Gympie wished Olivia all the best in the next stage of the competition and congratulated the young ladies who competed.
“Particularly the local girls who all put their best foot forward and showed they were a credit to the town,” Ms Stewart added.
Centro Gympie is helping send Olivia to Sydney for the national competition and has set up an account with Gympie's Heritage Building Society to assist with any costs associated with her trip. Miss Country Girl Australia is the regional prelude to Miss Universe Australia and ultimately, Miss Universe.
