Our hospital misses out

PRIME Minister Kevin Rudd’s hospital funding proposals will deliver nothing new for the hospitals in the federal electorate of Wide Bay, Federal Member for Wide Bay Warren Truss said.

Kevin Rudd has spent the past week making ad-hoc announcements of upgrades to selected hospitals in marginal electorates but he clearly has no plan to provide better services in run-down local hospitals.

“I welcome the extra services for the few hospitals that will receive them but where is Kevin Rudd’s plan to provide extra funding for the hospitals at Maryborough, Gympie, Noosa and Murgon?” Mr Truss said.

“Is the health of people in these communities less important than those in Labor’s targeted electorates for the next election?

“Regional hospitals deserve a fairer share of funding so they can provide the services that local communities expect.

“If the government was serious about improving health in regional communities it would ensure that new health funding would flow to all hospitals,” he said.
