Oprah says no to presidential run

OPRAH Winfrey has crushed the hearts of many Democrat supporters, ruling out a tilt at the White House in 2020.

"I've always felt very secure and confident with myself in knowing what I could do and what I could not," Winfrey said during an interview with InStyle. "And so it's not something that interests me. I don't have the DNA for it."

Winfrey sparked calls for her to run for president when she gave a passionate and powerful speech at the Golden Globes where she was picking up her Cecil B deMille award for outstanding contribution to entertainment.

When she told "all the girls watching here... to know that a new day is on the horizon!", many took it to mean that she might consider a bid for the US presidency.

Her partner Stedman Graham further stoked the rumours when he said those wanting her to run for office shouldn't give up hope.

"It's up to the people," he told the LA Times when asked about her possible run. "She would absolutely do it."

Her best friend Gayle King said Winfrey was "intrigued" about the possibility of running for president.

When Donald Trump was asked about a possible run against Winfrey in 2020, he said it would be "fun", adding: "Yeah, I'll beat Oprah."
