Online store rolls out for bowls

KAREN and Stuart Atkins are challenging the existing stereotype that lawn bowls is the domain of the 70-plus age bracket and putting their business online.

For the last three years, the Atkins have owned Jack High Bowls Shop on Ruthven St, but mounting costs have forced the couple to reconsider their future.

Mrs Atkins said the store simply wasn't getting enough foot traffic, so the couple made the decision to close their shop doors and push their business in an online format.

Mrs Atkins said the cost of overlays like electricity, insurance and security meant online was becoming increasingly attractive for many retailers.

"It's not just us. A lot more businesses are closing here in town or trying to decrease their costs," she said.
