One Nation Senator's election may face High Court challenge

ONE Nation Senator Rod Culleton's election as a Senator for Western Australia may face a High Court challenge from the Federal Government.

The ABC reports it will ask the Senate to consider challenging the election of the Senator.

Last week Mr Culleton avoided having a conviction recorded against his name after pleading guilty to larceny in a New South Wales court.

Attorney-General George Brandis said via statement that the allegations against Culleton were being brought by a man name Bruce Bell.

"It appears that the proceedings brought by Mr Bell are based on an allegation that, at the of the last election , Senator Culleton had been convicted of an offence punishable by a sentence of one year imprisonment or longer," Mr Brandis' statement read,
