UPDATE: One Nation senator arrested for larceny
UPDATE: One Nation senator for Western Australia, Rodney Culleton has had a conviction for larceny - which stemmed back to a dispute in Gujyra in Northern New South Wales - anulled by a Magistrate in Armidale.
Fairfax reports the conviction was made after Culleton failed to appear in court in March this year.
The anulment clears the way for him to take his seat in the Federal Senate.
EARLIER: One Nation senator for Western Australia, Rodney Culleton, has been arrested in New South Wales over a larceny conviction.
The arrest happened after he attended the local court at Armidale, in northern NSW, in a bid to have the conviction annulled.
Culleton was elected as a senator for WA, but the larceny conviction stands in the way of him taking office.
People are banned from being a federal representative when serving or awaiting sentence if they are convicted of a crime punishable by a year or more in prison.
