Dad killed in front of teen daughter 'had biggest heart'

A TEENAGE girl saw her father die after he was shot in the leg during a horrifying home invasion in Queensland's scenic rim this morning.

Police were called to the Gleneagle home before 6am after receiving a report of a break-in.

Two men were home, as well as the 13-year-old daughter of one of the men.

Both men were attacked during the home invasion, with one shot and the other hit over the head with a hammer.

"What we had was a 40-year-old man who is in a stable condition after being hit in the head with a hammer," Inspector Jim Plowman told media.

"A 48-year-old man was shot in the leg and has died of his injury.

"A 13-year-old girl was also in the house at the time. She is the daughter of the man who died."

It is not known whether the girl witnessed her father being shot but she was there as paramedics attempted to save his life.

A black, new model, Holden Commodore utility with no registration plates was seen fleeing the scene and was last observed on the Mount Lindesay Highway.

Police are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed - or has dash camera footage or CCTV - of the vehicle, in the vicinity of Brittany Court before 6am today, to come forward.

Detectives and forensic officers are scouring the property and the road outside the home.

Neighbours are shocked saying the man who was fatally shot was a nice guy.

"He was so great, he was so nice," neighbour Billie Beever said.

"He was super sweet.

"He was always out walking his three-legged poodle it was so f***ing cute."

Ms Beever said she had a young daughter and was frightened by events.

"It's just so scary, it's like why do people even have guns."

Another resident said the area was usually quiet.

"Not much usually happens around here, I can't remember anyone ever been shot or killed," he said.

"There's a lot of families around here.

"It's sad he died."

However, another local resident did the area was know as the "ice rink" an allusion to the drug crystal methamphetamine.

Another man said he "couldn't believe" what played out on his street this morning.

"He was a nice guy everyone knew him," he said.
