One-day final ready to go

TOMORROW'S one-day cricket final at Albert Park will be a blockbuster according to rival captains Neil McKean and Dean Chandler.

Both rate themselves the underdogs.

Wests' captain, McKean, said Harlequins were favourite because they were on top of the Gympie A-grade cricket table while Chandler said Wests were the favourite because they beat Harlequins in the one-day round match.

Both agreed the game would be tight.

"The pressure is on them," McKean said.

"They have been nailing everyone easily in their 60th year.

"They have all the pressure. They annihilated us last time and hopefully they will have too much confidence and we can sneak a win."

McKean was worried about Harlequins' Chris Darrach's batting form.

"He has been getting 50s against us every time," McKean said.

The other danger for Wests was the Harlequins pace attack of Dean Chandler and Craig Sorrell.

"Sorrell is bowling the best I have ever seen him bowl," McKean said.

He said, to win, Wests had to rely on their big guns hitting plenty of runs in the big game and they had to take all their chances in the field.

"It's the old story: take our catches and we will be in with a chance," McKean said.

"The Quins have choked in a lot of their finals.

"They may be different with big John (McClintock) keeping their heads level."

Chandler said that Wests were hard to beat in one-day matches.

"They have a few key players," he said.

"Macka (McKean), Bosworth and Brandon Sauer with the bat and Reedy (Scott Reedman) and Longy (Brett Long) are good with the ball.

"We lost our last one-dayer against them, it will be a pretty even match I reckon."

In today's games the teams continue the two-day format.

Wests play Colts and Harlequins face off against Valleys.

The Gold XI play at Albert Park.
