THOUSANDS of Queenslanders have packed into the Brisbane CBD to honour Rio Olympians in a welcome home parade.

More than 60 athletes, including 20 medallists, waved to the crowd in the Queen Street Mall.

There were Carnivale dancers to keep the Rio feeling alive, as athletes and school children mingled along the way.

Queensland Olympians present included the state's gold medallist rugby stars, silver medallist sailor Matthew Belcher, and 20-kilometre walker Dane Bird-Smith.

All proudly wore their medals.
