Offshore is sure going off

THERE'S been a lot more offshore activity the last couple of weeks with good numbers of mackerel around for those trolling baits and lures.

Catches have been mixed bags of reef fish like squire, pearl perch, parrot and Moses perch for those fishing the close reefs.

Inside the Strait has seen a lift in flathead catches as the larger females move inline with their breeding season. Most of the time you'll find several smaller males hanging around the larger girls so persist if you find a few small males on a bank. We are still seeing plenty of mangrove jack and estuary cod in the creeks especially on quality mullet flesh baits, its well worth taking the time to snood two hooks on your line when using longer baits like flesh strips. Good quality mud crabs have been around in good numbers and the quality has been right up there. There's a few squid and cuttlefish for those working jigs along the gravely bottom and some nice diver whiting in the deeper water as well.
