Officials set to release CSG chemical reports

THE Federal Government's national assessment of coal seam gas chemicals will not be completed until after the July 2 double dissolution election.

Officials from the environment department have told Senate Estimates the complex water and chemical science project should be completed shortly after the poll.

The department's Dr Diana Wright said the project's original deadline in 2014 was "overly ambitious", but the work should be completed and publicly released in "a matter of weeks".

The extensive delay, previously revealed by ARM Newsdesk, has come about despite several recommendations from the department's coal seam gas science committee for the work to be released in the past two years.

Dr Wright says the project will release some 15 scientific reports, but environmental groups remain concerned about the data the reports rely upon.
