Zac O’Brien elevated for Brisbane Lions to fill Rockliff gap

THE Brisbane Lions have elevated mature-age rookie Zac O'Brien to their senior list in place of skipper Tom Rockliff.

Rockliff spent two nights in a Brisbane hospital after his sickening collision with Collingwood's Travis Varcoe during his club's loss on Saturday night.

In his first game at the helm, the 25-year-old suffered a punctured lung and broken ribs, leaving him sidelined for at least six weeks.

O'Brien (pictured), 24, will, however, take Pearce Hanley's spot, with the Irishman placed on the long-term injury list after hip surgery.

O'Brien, who played five games last season, may add to that tally this Sunday when the Lions face North Melbourne at Etihad Stadium.

Richmond's Brett Deledio and Gold Coast's Matt Shaw, meanwhile, both accepted one-match bans from the Match Review Panel after their rough conduct reports in the opening round.
