Editorial: Spencer Slatter's OAM well deserved

IT'S great to see someone who works tirelessly in the community be rewarded for all their hard work.

Gympie Turf Club president Spencer Slatter was awarded an OAM in the Queen's Birthday Honours yesterday and by my way of thinking it couldn't have gone to a better person.

Spencer has been one of the driving forces who helped bring racing back to life in Gympie.

Racing at the Southside was all but dead until he jumped on board.

Along the way he has helped create jobs and wealth for our community.

He has also been involved in many other charities and clubs working behind the scenes to help many in the community.

So when I looked through the Queen's list yesterday and saw Spencer's name listed as the winner of an Order of Australia, I thought "good one".

"No one deserves that more."
