NZ police cop a lot of complaints

NEARLY 300 complaints have been upheld against New Zealand Police for failures in criminal investigations, unlawful force, dangerous driving and privacy breaches, a report says.

Of the 1417 allegations against police investigated in the first nine months of this year, 286 were upheld, according to Police Professional Conduct Statistics.

The quarterly report shows there have been 2960 allegations against police, with 1417 investigated so far.

The most complaints made and upheld related to "service failure” - delivery of service in investigations, giving victims adequate support and court proceedings.

There were 1038 reports and with 879 complete, 158 were upheld.

The second most alleged misconduct was for unprofessional behaviour - "inappropriate and unprofessional language or attitude, and any harassment, bullying or discrimination, in any environment”. There, 81 complaints were upheld out of 438 investigated out of the total 561 made. -NZ HERALD
