Not a golden night for Connors

MACKAY'S Graeme Connors has walked away from this year's Tamworth Country Music Festival empty handed after failing to snare a Golden Guitar award.

Despite being named a finalist in four categories (Album of the Year, Male Artist of the Year, APRA Song of the Year and Toyota Heritage Song of the Year), Connors was overlooked on each occasion on Australian country music's night of nights.

Connors' album At The Speed of Life was beaten by Adam Harvey's Falling Into Place for Album of the Year, while Keith Urban took home the Male Artist of the Year gong.

Shane Nicholson's Bad Machines was named APRA Song of the Year and the Golden Guitar for the Toyota Heritage Song of the Year (which Connors was nominated twice) went to The Bushwackers (I am Australian).

Australian country music legends Keith Urban and Beccy Cole were the big winners on the night, both picking up a brace of Golden Guitars.
