IT may be quite some time before the 2010 Sports Star of the Year Awards but Gympie and District Sportsman’s Association spokesperson Di Stratton is appealing for people to think about nominating now.
Nominations for this year’s awards across a range of categories were thrown open earlier this year.
Awards include the prestigious Sports Star of the Year through to juniors, teams, masters, administrators and athletes with a disability.
And while a number of nominations have been streaming in, Stratton wants the Gympie sporting community to lift their game.
“We know there are many athletes out there doing extremely well and we just don’t get to hear from them,” she said.
“We want people to nominate and not be afraid to.
“Athletes putting in a lot of hard work deserve to be recognised and we would like to hear of their achievements.”
Nominating an athlete achieving great things in their chosen field of sport is very easy.
Simply cut out the nomination coupon as appearing in The Gympie Times each Tuesday or by directly contacting the Gympie and District Sportsman’s Association.
Send nominations outlining the nominee’s achievements to The Secretary, 6 Wises Road, Gympie.
“We can’t celebrate the great achievements of our many sport stars if we don’t get to hear about them,” Stratton said.
