Noel’s dreams and drawings on show

DREAMING and Drawing, an exhibition of new works by Noel Foley, officially opens in Pomona Railway Station Gallery at 11.30am on Saturday, August 6.

The exhibition is Noel’s eighth solo show and runs until September 7.

Since moving to the Pomona area around three years ago, Noel says he has rejoiced in his return to the rainforest following a 35-five year hiatus in Darwin.

“Having been born and raised in Papua New Guinea, I have been infused since birth by the sights, smells, textures and closeness of the forest, experiences far removed from the NT,” he said. “I have never been much interested in the ‘grand vista’ but more so in the minutiae of the close in view necessitated by dense forest.

“Since settling down here I have been blessed to live in two inspiring places in the Ringtail Creek area with such wonderful landlords and friends as the Murphy and Gibbs families.

“Many of these works are inspired by these places and indeed these friends.

“My love of birds and the forest emerged as the logical heartbeat of this exhibition. Coming home to lush greenery has also reminded me of the pleasure of simple drawing, something I have been doing throughout my childhood.”

Noel’s works have resulted in an invitation to exhibit and teach aboard the QEII, which in turn opened opportunities internationally.

Dreaming and Drawing can be viewed: Weekdays 10am–4pm and weekends 10am–2pm.
