Lane steps closer to big event

RAINBOW Beach surfer Noah Lane has captured the prestigious Quiksilver Pro Trials for the Trails at Duranbah Beach yesterday.

The win enables Lane to participate in next year’s Quiksilver Pro Trials event.

The 2011 Quiksilver Pro Trails event will be held at Snapper Rocks, on the Gold Coast next year, one day ahead of the main event.

Lane ensured he would have a shot at qualifying for the main event with an outstanding performance in Duranbah Beach surf.

The Rainbow Beach surfer attacked shifting beach break peaks, scoring a combined two-wave heat total of 15.60 (out of a possible 20).

His score also included a great ride of 8.33 (out of a possible 10) to help defeat quality opposition.

Also earning a chance at making the main event in next year’s Quicksilver Pro Trials are Main Beach’s Chris Bennetts and Kawana’s Joe Schwartz.

Not to be outdone, Queensland’s elite contingent of female surfers also put their skills on display, as the state’s best female competitors went blow for blow in hope of securing the only female spot in next year’s Roxy Pro Trials.

Ultimately, Naomi Stevic, of Castaways Beach, clinched the qualifying ticket.

Qualifying competitors from the weekend’s event will now line up against a stellar group of surfers at the Quiksilver and Roxy Pro Trials event next year.
