No tsunami threat

Despite being the largest earthquake felt in our region in more than a century, there is no tsunami warning for Rainbow Beach and the Cooloola Coast region as of 10.02 am this morning.

The significant 5.3 magnitude earthquake, felt from The Gold Coast to Hervey bay, occurred offshore at 9.45am this morning, 126km east of Rainbow Beach at a depth of 30km.

It is the largest quake to hit our region since 1901.
