No Splendour heartbreak for Andrew

KANYE West, Regina Spektor and The Kills top Andrew Merrick’s must-see list and he’ll be able to catch all three acts at this month’s Splendour in the Grass.

The Coffs Harbour native, who recently moved to the Sydney suburb of Newtown, won one of two double camping passes to the festival in APN’s online competition.

“I’m so excited,” he said.

“I was just on the website (Queensland Times) just surfing around and I saw the Splendour competition there. I didn’t think I’d actually win.”

Selectors could not go past Merrick’s humourous entry: “If I don't go, who will jump on stage during Kanye West and exclaim “I'ma let you finish, BUT I WON SPLENDOUR TICKETS THROUGH QT!”.

The 22-year-old retail manager is taking his younger brother Jackson, 20, who lives in Brisbane.

While his brother has been to the festival twice before, Andrew has only been once several years ago when the event was based at Byron Bay.

Tickets to last year’s Splendour were the hottest festival tickets of the year. Merrick had one and was forced to sell it.

“I bought a ticket and for some reason I couldn’t go and had to sell my ticket back. It was heartbreaking,” he said.

“I’m glad this year I get to go.”

As part of his prize, Merrick and his brother will also interview a band at the festival with APN’s Group Entertainment editor.

Splendour in the Grass runs from July 29-31 at Woodfordia in Woodford, Queensland. More information and playing times at the Splendour website.

A limited number of tickets are still available through Moshtix.
