No local job losses mooted in Boral’s national cutbacks

GYMPIE'S Boral Concrete does not expect to be affected by the sweeping job cuts in Boral over the next few weeks.

The Buckley Rd operation employs six staff, but a spokesman said yesterday the 700 job cuts announced by Boral yesterday were not likely to reach the Gympie operation.

Boral's new chief executive, Mike Kane, said yesterday the cuts would occur at all levels of the business across Australia; 200 have already occurred and the rest will go by March. The cuts are in response to a struggling building products market.
