OPINION: No idea is new, not even fancy trees in winter

I ALWAYS thought imitation was the sincerest form of flattery but apparently not when it comes to Warwick.

Organisers of Warwick's Jumpers and Jazz Festival are up in arms because Gympie supposedly stole their idea for the Winter Trees in Mary St event last week.

Well boo hoo Warwick.

Gympie's Mary St isn't trying to take over Warwick's Festival - all they are trying to do is bring interest and customers back to the CBD.

Warwick does an amazing job with their festival but that doesn't mean they have copyright on the idea; just ask the Gympie Muster organisers who have to compete with rival music festivals after they invented the concept 30 years ago. Competition is a good thing, it drives us all to do and be better.
