NiE RAP and Read Story 2012

2012 is all about Australians becoming a nation of readers. APN's Newspapers in Education program is embracing the National Year of Reading to help promote the importance and joy of reading through its Rap and Read series.

The NiE RAP and Read presents a nine chapter fictional story (The Picture Tells the Story). It will provide our readers with an opportunity to Review, Apply and Practise literacy skills while still enjoying the experience of reading!

The RAP and Read Program will be published in APN's daily newspapers for nine weekdays commencing June 12 and concluding June 22. As the exciting nine chapter story unfolds each day in the newspaper, readers will be guided through a variety of ways to extract meaning from the text.Online resources, activities and a competition will also be included to enhance and support the series.With newspapers  supplied to schools each day, the RAP and Read Program is an excellent resource for shared reading in the classroom and is a way of teaching students how to use language while having fun reading. The story should appeal to its audience with relevant experiences, issues and ideas being involved. Change, family, the environment and social responsibility issues will be highlighted which are sure to provide a solid platform for classroom discussions.

THE SYNOPSIS

Binda's life is pretty cruisey. She's got great friends, her Dad is cool, she gets to enjoy her love of music and has cash in her pocket from her part-time job baby-sitting. When she stumbles across a disturbing photograph Binda is put in a difficult situation .
