Nick makes state touch team

TALENTED young middle Nick Ellems will travel to Brisbane at the end of October to compete in the national touch championships after securing a spot in the state primary school boys' 12 years touch football team.

Nick, 12, was selected when playing for Wide Bay at the Queensland championships at Bald Hills in August with fellow Gympie player Bailey Parr. He has represented Wide Bay for touch and rugby league the past two years, but this is his first Queensland jersey. Wide Bay finished equal third in the 2012 contest in under-12s.

The "pretty stoked" St Patrick's Year 7 student will attend a few training camps with the Queensland team in Brisbane in the lead-up to the nationals.

Selected as a "creative middle", his job will be to organise and set up play, something he does with great success.

Nick started out with Gympie touch at age five, and is looking forward to playing on the same team as his father and two older brothers next year.

His dad Eric said players could sign on with a touch team any Wednesday from 3.30pm down at the touch ovals at Albert Park.
