NewsXpress sells a $100,000 scratch-it
NOTHING pleases Gympie NewsXpress owner Warrick Hosking more than seeing a customer win a big prize.
And after 39 years in the newsagent business, Mr Hosking has seen more than his fair share of winners.
The newsagent's latest winner received a handy sum of $100,000 on a $5 instant scratch-it just before Christmas.
Mr Hosking became aware of the big prize when he received a congratulatory letter and commemorative plaque from lotto operator Golden Casket.
The plaques are a relatively new introduction.
Previously Golden Casket sent cardboard cut-outs, which had a short shelf-life, to be put on display.
The latest plaque joins four others marking big wins from the Gympie newsagent.
The honours list includes prizes of $250,000, $500,000, $803,198.76 and a jaw-dropping $1,035,490.60.
"The plaques are only for first-division wins," Mr Hosking said.
Clearly exciting for the winning customers, My Hosking said he and his team shared in the joy of a big dividend.
"It great to see," he said.
"It is definitely exciting for us as well when we find out about it."
Privacy considerations meant Mr Hosking could not reveal the big winner yesterday.
"It's a lot of money so we respect people's privacy when they request it," he said.
NewsXpress's latest success story continues a winning trend for the newsagent.
The Mary St newsagent is ranked first in regional Queensland and eighth Australia-wide.
Only last year, Mr Hosking and wife Joanne celebrated winning the inaugural Hallmark Alliance Retailer of the Year Award, which included a prize of a trip to the US.
