THE Diamond Jubilee that has created scenes of celebration throughout the British Isles was given a nod by Premier Campbell Newman in parliament on Tuesday.
Mr Newman said Her Majesty the Queen has been to Australia 16 times and to Queensland eight times during her 60 year reign.
"We are indeed proud Queenslanders as we also celebrate this important occasion," Premier Newman said.
"On behalf of all Queenslanders, I have written to the Queen to congratulate her on this milestone anniversary and to acknolwedge her dedicated and significant service."
The state will have a one-off public holiday next Monday to commemorate the occasion.
