New home-based salon at The Palms

IT IS not often you can find a hair salon with child-friendly services but Kym Ramsay is bringing a fresh perspective to the world of hair and beauty.

Your Hair Design and Beauty is a home business run by Ms Ramsay at The Palms, Gympie.

She is a born and bred local, having grown up in Gympie where she completed her schooling before beginning her studies in hairdressing at Gympie TAFE.

She completed her apprenticeship at Streetwise Hair in Mary St where she built a loyal client base, allowing her to branch out and begin her own ventures.

In the future, she plans to educate trainees and apprentices but she also wants to pass on her own expertise and knowledge to hairdressers who may not have worked for some time and need some self-assurance.

"I am working towards teaching at Tafe and owning a business is part of that objective," she said.

"I want to train existing hairdressers and give them the confidence to get back into what they do."

With the exception of spray tanning, Ms Ramsay's salon provides all beauty services including waxing, eyelash tinting, make-up and hair design.

Ms Ramsay will also arrange wedding packages for the bride's big day and is prepared to travel specified distances to look after her clientele.

All services are provided at a reaonable price with quality is assured.

"I cater to all areas of hair and beauty, ensuring that clients receive the highest professional care."

The business was established in August when the local hairdresser decided to combine her career and passion with raising her toddler.

Since this time she has endeavoured to provide a comfortable environment for existing and new clients, with an added focus on mother's needs, providing a child friendly service.

"I know after 12 years of hairdressing that it's stressful for mums to come to a salon and I provide an environment where they can bring their children," she said.

"I have set up a play area so mums can bring kids and they can relax without having to worry about their child's safety or the other customers."

"It's all about being family oriented."

Ms Ramsay relies on Facebook and word of mouth to build her clientele and it is certainly working.

"Business is going really well, I have enough work to fill three days," she said.

She is well established in her career and she has a certificate four in hairdressing, a certificate four in training and assessing and a certificate in waxing, ensuring all your beauty needs are taken care of.

"I give my clients quality of service because I am one hundred per cent committed to their hair and beauty."

"In my case, time is not of the essence and it isn't about who is next in the appointment book."

"My focus is the client and it's simply about them ."

The salon is open Monday, Thursday until late and Saturday.
