New lights for Jim Geiger Oval is part of the facelift
JIM Geiger Oval has received a major facelift, with upgraded lighting switched on for the first time last week.
Member for Gympie David Gibson congratulated the One Mile Sports Association on their efforts to secure the lighting, for which $76,800 was contributed by the State Government as part of the Get in the Game initiative.
"This upgrade will make life much easier for everyone who calls Jim Geiger Oval their sporting home," he said.
"The new lighting, which conforms to Australian standards, will allow for training and playing after 5.30pm, which will solve the issue of limited access and scheduling difficulties between clubs. In turn, this will provide more time and flexibility for clubs to take on more members," he said.
One Mile Sports Association secretary Pam Tindall said the lighting upgrade would allow for night training and games.
"Senior and junior cricket teams, four football clubs, local schools and the new Australian Premier League team, Wide Bay Revolution, will all benefit from the new lighting."
