New executive in men's shop
THIS month marks the end of an era for one Mary St business. It has not closed down, but has been bought by a long-standing member of staff.
On September 1, Gympie couple Ross and Margaret Connolly officially took over Mr Executive Menswear.
The business was established in 1974 by Neville Lorensen, and since then has been dressing Gympie men for work and play, selling quality men's garments, work clothing, hiring suits and offering a personalised service.
Mr Lorensen is now retiring after 37 years as the only owner of the business.
Mr Connolly had worked in the shop for the past 35 years and for him and his wife, purchasing the business was a natural progression.
He said selling "quality goods"; has kept the business alive for so long.
"We sell a lot Australian made, which is good,"; Ross Connolly said.
Future plans for the business include expanding the range of large men's sizes, and increasing the selection of Australian-made garments stocked.
Mr Connolly said he and his wife remained optimistic about the future of Mary St, and chose not to take notice of negative people.
"(Negativity) drives me insane,"; he said. "It's a nice place, everyone loves Mary Street.
"We believe Mary Street still has great potential, with a positive attitude.";
