New $2m bridge in place for Muster

A NEW two-lane concrete bridge along Amamoor Creek Rd will be a step closer tomorrow, with Gympie Mayor Ron Dyne turning the first sod on-site.

The existing single-lane timber bridge was badly damaged in last year's floods.

It has since operated with a reduced load limit.

Cr Dyne said the $2 million project was jointly funded by council, state and federal governments as part of the Natural Disaster Relief and Recovery Arrangements.

"Removing the load limit and providing two-lane access is important for residents along Amamoor Creek Rd and also the many thousands who use to the road to access the Gympie Music Muster each year," he said.

"By also building a more resilient structure, we're helping to better ensure safe access all year round."

Sunshine Coast company Queensland Concrete and General Construction Co won the project tender, which should be finished in time for the Gympie Music Muster at the end of August.
