OPINION: Nestle coffee is a boost for all Gympie
THE Nestle factory on Pine St in Gympie has been a major income producer for the Gympie region for more than 60 years.
First as a powdered milk plant and now as an instant coffee factory.
The factory changed from milk to coffee in 1985.
Back then Nestle announced that the manufacture of dairy products would cease because of the decline in the dairying industry.
They then started to manufacture International Roast instant coffee.
The change brought to an end 32 years of production of spray-dried milk powder and infant feeding powders.
Thankfully for us, Nestle kept faith in our community and now the industry pumps $20 million into our economy every year.
Nestle is very important to our region and we should all be proud of the product made here.
It is shipped all around the country putting a special Gympie hit into most people's lives.
