Name change unveiled: Gympie Central
THERE will be no one doing their Christmas shopping at Centro Gympie this year, instead it will all be done at Gympie Central.
Gympie's largest shopping centre is undergoing a name change to coincide with the re-branding of the company that owns it.
In January 2013 Centro Gympie's parent company, Centro Retail Australia, changed its name to Federation Centres.
As part of this rebrand all of the Centro shopping centres will also be renamed.
A Federation Centres' spokesman said in most cases, centres are being returned to their local, colloquial name, the name they are most commonly referred to within their community.
"Gympie Central is the new name for Centro Gympie," he said.
"We want our centres to play a pivotal role in their communities.
"By renaming our centre, we are, in a sense, giving it back to the community."
The spokesman said Federation Centres aspired to be a hub for the Gympie community.
"We want people to love our local shopping and believe our centre should reflect its local community and what is important to the people who live, work and shop in this locality".
Federation Centres is an Australian real estate investment trust specialising in the ownership and management of Australian shopping centres.
