Mysterious fish with 'feet' identified

THE mystery of the fish with "feet" has been solved by a Sunshine Coast Daily reader.

A story was published on Wednesday about a bizarre fish caught by Michelle Garside in the Twin Waters canal, who then put the call out on Facebook for people to help identify the creature.

Many suspected it was a frog fish, with reader Darren Hunne emailing in a picture of his own leopard skin frog fish, which he said was related to the stonefish family.

"My wife found him net fishing in the canal near Amarina Ave," he wrote.

"We had a saltwater tank so he lived with us for three months before we released him back to his home.

"(It) has a little fishing rod that comes out of his head with a little worm on the end to attract food."
