Musos sing an ode to Mary
MARY St is feeling the love from musicians keen to perform on the City Centre Stage on a Saturday, even if the audience are just shoppers passing by.
Open air concerts have been held sporadically in the heart of Gympie for the past two months and have received a good reaction from members of the public.
The aim is to hold these concerts weekly but this will all depend on community support, Gympie Council's Youth and Community Development officer Matt Allard said.
Under his guidance a number of local musicians, including Lee Turner from Blue Logic Studios and solo artist Dave White, have been hosting these concerts in a volunteer capacity. The hope is that these concerts help foster local talent while attracting an audience, which in turn will spend money in Gympie's main street.
It has been proven that every person who attends these events to perform or for the sole purpose of supporting Gympie's creative industries has spent money - from coffees at Brown Jug to lunch at Paninis.
Some have even picked up a few bargains from the unique boutique shops but ultimately, everyone from out of town that discover the City Centre Stage goes away impressed.
