Muriel's beliefs in childcare win
IF YOUR children are being cared for by Muriel Sellars they are in good hands.
The Mary Valley family day care educator has been named Queensland state winner in the Family Day Care Australia Educator of the Year awards.
Selected from thousands of family day care educators in the state, Mrs Sellers was also in the running for the national title announced last week in Brisbane.
"For me, family day care is all about providing quality early childhood education in a place where children feel like they are at home," Mrs Sellers said.
She operates her family day care from her five hectare property in Amamoor.
Each day the children pick fruit from the orchard for morning tea and make lunch from vegetables they have grown in the permaculture garden.
Children feed chooks and collect the eggs while looking after the property's recycling.
"I love the new national regulations where the children can dictate spontaneous programming," Mrs Sellers said.
"It means when a lamb is born we can walk to the paddock to take a look, or if they want to walk to the creek they can."
