Mural unveiled at TAFE

THE artistic talents of quite a few Gympie people went on permanent display with the unveiling of a 440-tile mural at Gympie TAFE College.

The project was initiated as a way of celebrating yesterday’s International Day of People with a Disability (IDPWD), and a concept by Emma Rice and Roxanne MacGregor.

About 100 people attended the unveiling by Gympie MP David Gibson, who congratulated the organising committee on what they had achieved.

Each tile had been created by people with and without disabilities with help from art teacher Peter Harris.

Mr Harris painted the mural overlay – the IDPWD logo.

Ms MacGregor said the project had proved to be “a very interesting journey”.

“We had a great time and there have been a lot of wonderful people involved. It will be a lasting reminder for many, many years to come,” she said.

IDPWD is an event that raises awareness about issues related to disabilities and celebrates the abilities of people with disabilities.
