Mum’s pain relief leads to drugs fine

A RUSSELL Island mother was fined $550 in Gympie Magistrates Court after being convicted on drugs charges.

Forty-one-year-old Cindy Lee Devaliet pleaded guilty to three charges on Monday.

The charges included possessing cannabis and a drug utensil in the form of a pipe, after they were found by police on July 8.

She told the court she was no longer using drugs but had been using them as pain relief.

The court heard she had been suffering due to a bad break in her hand that had been causing on-going pain.

Devaliet pleaded guilty to the drugs charges and was fined $550 for the two offences as well as a third charge of contravening a police requirement.

The contravene charge resulted from Devaliet failing to provide her identifying particulars to police by July 16.
