Gympie Cinemas drop movie ticket prices

GYMPIE Cinemas' Sharon Crane has timed the unveiling of a new pricing structure perfectly with this week's release of the new X Men - Days of Future Past release.

The latest blockbuster in the popular X Men franchise is bound to keep eyes transfixed on the big screen and Ms Crane struggled to think of a better time to break the news on a new pricing structure.

Tickets now cost the flat rate of $10 "across the board" for children and adults alike, helping keep the cost of a trip to the cinema down low.

"We had the same prices for so long and while we have had great attendance during the school holidays, numbers have been down in between," Ms Crane said.

"I said to my boss, 'We need to look at prices.'

"Having this new price structure will hopefully encourage people to see a film in Gympie instead of paying higher prices down the Coast for tickets and fuel."

But it is important to note concession rates for seniors will not change. Tickets for pensioners, among the cinema's most loyal customers, will continue to cost $6.50 before 5pm and $8 thereafter.

A similar flat rate has been introduced at Big Screen Cinemas Caloundra with great success, encouraging Ms Crane to take the leap of faith in Gympie.

The new price structure is a trial and its longevity rests in Gympie movie-buffs' hands.

"We'll take this trial through to the next school holidays and have a look at how things are working then," Ms Crane said.

The price of family movies, presently $8, is presently being reviewed.

Meanwhile, Gympie Cinemas continues its strong involvement with community groups' fundraising activities with more charity screenings planned this week.

See Angelina Jolie's latest film, Maleficent, Friday to help the Centenary Scouts and Saturday to lend a hand to Gympie Netball.

Head to gympiecinemas.com.au for ticket bookings and screening times. Tickets to fundraising screenings cost $12, with half of all proceeds covering admission and the remainder going towards fundraising.
