Motorcycle Club riders excel

GYMPIE Motorcycle Club riders are enjoying another wave of success after contesting the third and final round of the Suzuki Enduro Cross last weekend.

In total, the club supplied seven senior and 21 junior riders to the event in Conondale.

Saturday saw challenging conditions for all riders as persistent showers left the track slippery.

Gympie Motorcycle Club publicity officer Donna Jeremy said despite the difficulties, Gympie riders overcame the conditions.

“All riders proved their worth by handling the conditions extremely well,” she said.

Sunday saw a repeat of the greasy conditions but event organisers were relieved when the weather improved throughout the day.

Conondale is a popular track for racing and this was reflected in the number of riders nominating to take part. In total, nominations reached 240.

Jeremy said Gympie juniors, never far away from the pointy end of the field, were again outstanding with a collection of podium finishes.

Meanwhile, senior rider Christy Ferguson collected third position in the ladies’ class.

Junior results:

Juniors U150 2st/250 4st: 1st Guy Parkinson, 2nd Kasey Winston, 4th Dan Gordon. Juniors 85 2st/150 4st: 1st Peter-Daniel Allan; Juniors 85 2st/150 4st 9-11 yrs: 1st Ben Korn, 3rd Jarred Brook, 4th Truman Winston; Junior Girls 9-15 years: 2nd Sarah Brook, 3rd Monique Kraan; Juniors Girls 85cc: 1st Codie Winston.

In other news, the Gympie Motorcycle Club is hosting its Annual Gympie Aventure Riders Ride this weekend.

Held every year for road registered and licensed riders, the ride leaves the Imbil Showgrounds Saturday morning and will cover plenty of territory.

The ride is not a race, with participants encouraged to take their time enjoying plenty of views out over the coast as well as the challenge of the bike trails themselves.
