Gympie girls take to the catwalk
NATIONAL model search Miss Country Girl Australia is coming to Gympie and will be holding regional heats at Centro Gympie in search of a true Australian beauty.
“Miss Country Girl Australia provides young women an opportunity to establish a professional and exciting modelling career by breaking geographic boundaries and allowing these truly Australian girls to shine,” Queensland Director, Sally Miles said.
“Contestants are given the opportunity to participate in a modelling workshop hosted by an industry recognised choreographer.
“Here they learn all the skills required to transform themselves from a country town girl to a supermodel; such as deportment, etiquette, walking and talking skills as well as industry tips and tricks.
“No experience is required as Miss Country Girl Australia acts as a platform for local girls to enter the modelling arena,” Ms Miles said.
“It can also act as a catalyst for young girls to increase their confidence and/or experience on the catwalk.
Each regional winner is invited to compete at the National Final in Sydney for the title of Miss Country Girl Australia 2010 this November, in front of an industry and celebrity studded crowd.
“The beauty about these hidden talents is they genuinely represent Australia,” she said.
“Last year was a major success with the national final showcasing 23 country girls selected from numerous states across regional Australia.
“Seventy-five per cent of these girls walked away from the night with either a modelling contract or an interview with an agency.
“One finalist won herself a Hong Kong contract, another walked for Alex Perry just three days later and our 2nd runner-up is currently Miss World Teen Supermodel.
“With some of our most successful models hailing from rural areas there has been a real push within the Australian modelling industry to search regional Australia for talent.
“This pattern can be recognised through models including Miranda Kerr; Gunnedah, Jennifer Hawkins; Newcastle and now the 2009 Miss Universe Australia winner Rachael Finch from Townsville.” Could Miss Gympie be next?
Centro Gympie will be holding a registration day on September 21 and invites all girls aged 10-28 years to enter.
Heats will be held September 22 with the grand final on September 23. To register, visit misscountrygirlaustralia.com.au.
Miss Country Girl Australia will also be visiting Maryborough and Emerald.
