IT SEEMS nothing can deflate Texan Robert Murphy.

The retired visual arts teacher, a former American cowboy who now lives in the Blue Mountains, was eliminated from My Kitchen Rules tonight.

But the 61-year-old is still as positive and charming as ever with his strong Texas drawl.

"You need to stay happy and I'm still just as happy as a dead pig in the sun," Mr Murphy told APN.

"We did the best we could on the day. It just didn't happen for us."

The 61-year-old and his daughter Lynzey lost their sudden-death cook-off against Brisbane's Rob and Dave.

They were considered strong contenders after scoring the first perfect 10s of this year's season during their instant restaurant.

During the filming of the reality cooking show the father and daughter had to deal with several personal issues including Mr Murphy's outstanding taxes and the unexpected death of his sister Maxine in the US.

"My sister meant a lot to Lynzey and me," Mr Murphy said.

"I went almost a week with only sleeping an hour or two a day and it took a lot out of me.

"We're not making any excuses though."

Lynzey has also been a regular target of gossip magazines, which have linked her to both oyster farmer Rob Hemsworth and British expat Steve Flood.

"Steve and I are really good friends. We still hang out as friends and a picture can make something to look however they want it to look I guess," she said.

"I think it's kind of funny I've somehow, incidentally, I've kept all of Australia thoroughly confused with my love life."

Both said they would be happy with any of the 10 remaining teams winning the show's grand prize.
