Mining museum needs council support
Letter to the Editor
FOR the past five years during our holiday to Australia we have always made a day visit to Gympie as well as to the gold museum.
This year we have been house sitting in Gympie since May and have thoroughly enjoyed being part of the Gympie community.
My partner has even volunteered to help with the maintenance of the museum.
We were very surprised to hear that the town’s council give very little if any at all financial help for the upkeep and running of the museum.
Instead the museum relies on gate takings and donations, which unfortunately aren't forthcoming in large amounts .
The museum has a wealth of Gympie's history plus memorabilia from other countries.
It would be a sad day if the museum has to close because of lack of support.
I am sure they could also do with more volunteers to help with the cleaning and up keep.
