Miners in play blitz

IF weather permits, the Gympie Miners will face Coolum at Coolum from 8.30pm tonight.

Miners' manager Angela Williams said they'd beaten bottom-of the-ladder Coolum before, but said the Miners should have no preconceptions.

Miners sat at fourth, but Williams said that could improve, as the side has catch-up games to play.

After the Coolum game, the Miners would back up for a Tuesday catch-up game against Woombye, and then Friday's fixture against Buderim.

Williams said cramming in three games during seven days was less than ideal. The Miners would face Coolum after 1-1 draw to Maroochydore last Friday.

The Miners defence, lead by goalie Kiah Monk, who Williams said had her best performance of the season, kept a hold on Maroochydore after their first goal three minutes into the first half.

The side played with only 10 on deck after losing key defender Kacey Kidd to a back injury in the 10th minute until Alexis Tramacchi and Julie Hadzic arrived for the second half.

Williams said defender Elise Hornsby's performance in the Maroochydore bash warranted special mention.

Kidd was out for tonight's game but Kym Espin would step up to centre-back to ease the pressure.
