Mental illnesses affect 50%

IT SEEMS most of us will be impacted by mental illness at sometime in our lives.

Close to 50% of us will suffer from some sort of mental illness in our lifetime.

If we are lucky enough not to suffer from depression, anxiety, a bipolar disorder, or the myriad of other conditions that come under the label of mental illness, we will surely know someone who is affected.

The problem is there is still a stigma attached to mental illness and a lot of misunderstanding in the community.

This week is Mental Health Week and it's a good chance for all of us to become informed about the problem because like it or not it will hit home sooner or later.

And for people in the community who are feeling overwhelmed, confused or unable to cope, talk to a professional, or even a friend, before it all becomes too much.
