Men of League lending a hand
WITH the recent success of the Gympie Devils in the Sunshine Coast/Gympie Rugby League and the end of the official league season one man is thinking about the future of past and present rugby league players.
Mark Svenson is an old footballer who wants to start a chapter of the Men of League Foundation in Gympie.
He has already got the ball rolling in Maryborough and would like to get the foundation operating in South Burnett and Gympie as well.
The Men of League Foundation is an Australian wide group.
The primary objective of Men of League is to support former rugby league players, coaches, administrators, referees, officials and their families who have fallen on hard times.
And they do it regularly.
Svenson is and ex-Brisbane Valley's player who has played along side Wally Lewis and overseas.
He came down from the country in 1974 to play in the Brisbane competition and won two premierships.
Svenson said he would like to base the group on the old 47th Battalion competition that ran between Maryborough, South Burnett and Gympie.
If you would like to give your support to the Men of League Foundation in Gympie you are invited to a get together at the Gympie Pines Golf Course clubhouse on Friday October 21 at 4pm.
