Melbourne City sweating on fitness of star man

FOOTBALL: Melbourne City coach John van't Schip says marquee player Nicolas Colazo will be given every chance to play in tonight's A-League clash with the Perth Glory at AAMI Park as he struggles to overcome an ear infection.

The 26-year-old Argentinian, who has been a key man in City's unbeaten start to the new campaign, copped a knock on the head in last week's 4-1 derby win over Melbourne Victory.

An inner ear problem resulted for the midfielder, forcing him to miss training on Wednesday and yesterday ahead of tonight's game.

Van't Schip said he was in doubt but added: "We're waiting until the last moment as well.

"He's still in contention, but we'll have to wait.

"He got a (knock) to his head and he felt a bit strange.”

All other City players other than Ivan Franjic (illness) and Corey Gameiro (knee) are available to take on Perth.

Goalkeeper Thomas Sorensen, who missed last week's derby victory through suspension, is also back but the coach said he was no certainty to start ahead of deputy Dean Bouzanis, who was one of the better players last week.

"There's competition for every spot and I already mentioned that before,” van't Schip said yesterday.

"We'll make a decision on that tomorrow. Everyone has to be fighting for their spot and be prepared to go for that competition.

"It's only a good sign that we had Dean in and then he did well in Wellington (after Sorensen went off) and then again in the derby.

"He's closing the gap, that's for sure.”
