Meals kitchen upgrade
MEALS on Wheels, Gympie will receive $33,500 to purchase new kitchen equipment to help prepare the hundreds of meals it delivers each day.
The $1.24 million funding boost to help Meals on Wheels organisations in Queensland was announced by Disability Services Minister Annastacia Palaszczuk at the State Conference in Brisbane this week.
She said $770,000 of the funding would go towards 38 Meals on Wheels organisations to purchase kitchen equipment including dishwashers, food processors and convection ovens and the extra $472,600 would help Queensland Meals on Wheels Services Association to support the State’s 148 Meals on Wheels organisations.
“The extra funding is a win for Meals on Wheels and even more importantly it’s a win for the thousands of Queenslanders who rely on its services.”
“Meals on Wheels is the biggest volunteer organisation in Queensland, with more than 14,000 volunteers,” she said.
“(They) deliver more than 10,000 meals in Queensland each day (but they) do more than just deliver meals – they’re also a friendly face to thousands of people.”
