‘Shattered’: Matildas star cops huge injury blow
MATILDAS star Caitlin Foord has suffered a serious foot injury and is set to undergo surgery, which could put her in doubt for Australia's Asian Cup campaign.
Foord twisted her foot during Sydney FC's W-League win over Newcastle on Saturday and sat out the remainder of the match.
On Monday, Foord confirmed on Instagram she had ruptured the Lisfranc ligament in her foot, while she also had an unstable joint in her mid-foot.
"Mixed emotions for me after Saturday's semi-final win, I couldn't be happier to get the win with my @sydneyfootballclub girls and proud of this group to be heading through to the W-league Grand Final this weekend," Foord posted.
"But after having abit of bad luck during the match and after my scans im absolutely shattered to find out ive Rupture (sic) my lis franc ligament and have a unstable joint in mid foot. I will be under going surgery tomorrow.
"Thank you to everyone for there prays (sic) and kind messages.
"A massive positive - I have a lot of things to keep me motivated and working hard towards. Plus I'm in good hands and I have 100% trust in everyone around me to have me back on the field before I know it."
That would see Foord miss Australia's Algarve Cup campaign in March, while she is likely to also be in doubt for the Asian Cup in April.
Foord is widely considered one of the brightest talents in world football.
The versatile forward has already played in two World Cups, while she was named the AFC Women's Player of the Year in 2016.
